Tiffany E says “Best Movie of the YEAR!”

Belinda Blanding says “Great movie! Left the theatre 2 hours ago and I can’t stop thinking about it.”

In 1999, the wedding of the decade took place. 9 characters were introduced in our lives and 15 years later they are still as memorable as the first time we met. Harper and Robin, Lance and Mia, Julian and Candice and the hilarious Quentin and Shelby all return for much laughter and holiday love. Years have passed, all have succeeded within their careers and there is nothing like a holiday vacation in a huge mansion with your best friends. With old wounds still unhealed and secrets untold, this film tells a story of friendship, family, love and life. It’s a well-rounded movie that anyone can relate too. It’s so good to have them back.

It’s hard to believe I was in the 9th grade when The Best Man was released. Time sure does fly but, like fine wine, The Best Man Holiday taste better than ever! With the deliciousness that is Morris Chestnut and Terrance Howard, the fineness that is Nia Long and Sanaa Lathan and the flavor that is the writing and directing of Malcolm Lee, the world has tasted this classic and enjoyed.

Not only are the people talking but the box office proves the rave reviews! Its opening weekend, The Best Man Holiday brought in $30.6m, making it number 2 in the box office following Thor. Congrats to all involved in the making of Thor! Heard it was a great movie! Bringing in $38.4m, I have no doubt it was an entertaining film.

Can I be upfront for a second? I like to be upfront, so let me just make this one observation. It is no secret that majority box-office hits are majority white casted and funded by white people. This article isn't about race but about numbers, and the numbers advocate my last statement. There is a genre called “black Hollywood” which Hollywood (with a lot of help from the media) considers less profitable. Well, USA Today seemed to have spoken for Hollywood with its latest headline about the film. It is somehow shocking, in the year 2013, that an all-black cast could compete with the heavy-hitting Thor (pun intended). Why exactly this is a shock is the BIG question. I've heard Tyler Perry say it the most…if you give us something we want to see, we’ll see it. I’m pretty sure that goes for any race or culture.

USA Today was not the first to share there opinion about the film. Detroit News also gave its opinion of the film. “The Best Man Holiday gives holidays a bad name.” The San Francisco Chronicle stated “the people in "The Best Man Holiday" - not just the actors, but the characters they play - deserved a better script than this.” The New York Times said “Even if some of the crudeness and the drama feel forced, it's hard to hate.” Flixter rated that 65% of critics like this film (which is a decent number) but, as we can see, viewers thought differently. 94% of Flixters users enjoyed this film. Numbers don’t lie. This may not be “your type of movie” but I challenge you to step out the box and watch something different. Go see this film!
